Polokong Elderly Care Center Advances Active Ageing in 2026

Empowering Elders Through Care and Community

The first half of 2026 has been a meaningful period for our Center as we continue promoting healthy, active, and dignified ageing. During this period, we also warmly welcomed three new elderly residents into our care, further strengthening our sense of community and expanding our commitment to providing a safe and supportive home for all. Through programmes and partnerships, we are helping elderly stay engaged and connected.

Month of March we had the honor of hosting a beautiful and impactful commemoration in celebration of International Women’s Month. The event brought together key stakeholders committed to uplifting and protecting women in our community, including Gender Affairs, Matshwane Clinic, Letsholathebe Social Worker, and the Botswana Police Service. It was a powerful moment of sharing knowledge, raising awareness, and strengthening partnerships in support of women’s well-being, safety, and empowerment. We extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in making the event a success.

Promoting Health and Well-being

The health of our elderly clients remains a top priority. Throughout the year, healthcare professionals have provided education and free medical screenings.

We were honoured by Maun Private Hospital and Eco Pathology, who educated clients on chronic illnesses and dementia, and conducted screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer to support early detection and healthier living.

We also welcomed the Occupational Therapy Department from Boitekanelo College, who conducted mobility assessments for our residents. Their team assessed joint pain, stiffness, arthritis, and other musculoskeletal conditions, helping to identify health concerns and guide appropriate care and interventions. We sincerely appreciate their professionalism and hands-on support in improving the well-being and mobility of our elderly clients.

We appreciate all partners who continue to invest in improving the lives of our elderly community.

Active Ageing in Action

We still continue with our Active Ageing Programme that promotes fitness, creativity, and social interaction. These weekly activities include:

  • Chair exercises
  • Arts and crafts
  • Beading and sewing
  • Gardening and poultry care
  • Educational TV and indoor games

These activities support mobility, independence, confidence, and social connection.

Building Strong Community Partnerships

This year, we have worked with hospitals, professionals, volunteers, students, donors, and community groups who share our vision of improving elderly care.

The likes of Botswana Open University Maun Campus and Mr Nixon Masora.

Every visit, donation, and act of support strengthens our commitment to quality service.

Looking Ahead

As 2026 continues, we remain committed to expanding programmes, strengthening partnerships, and providing a safe, supportive environment where elderly can age with dignity and purpose.

We thank our partners, volunteers, donors, families, and the community for their continued support.

“Growing Older with Dignity, Living with Purpose.”
